It's Walmart and IKEA all over again

Almost it's a different name because I'm in Mexico but you'll get the picture.Yes the big dog has move into town. Ometepec was a small quite town with tons of little mom and pop stores. Kinda like Hood River or Troutdale before they muscled their way into town Like a place were you could buy a new blender or you could get you blender repaired or the guy who can fix your electric drill while you wait. Or the little corner store that sells toilet paper, soda, milk, and hot dog buns, (No hamburger buns, which I was looking for yesterday). So now Ometepec has a super store. Yup construction is complete and the store has been open for 3 days now. The first day I didn't dare go because it was a mad house. For all those crazy Portland folk, remember when IKEA came to town and it took 3 months just to park and walk into the building. That was what that last 2 days have looked like for us. It's been an absolute zoo. This is an example of how crazy it's been, Barb went on opening day, and I think the store broke every fire code in the book. Talk about crazy, she was walking around with her little hand basket and she finally gave up walking around with it at her knees. Because of the amount of people it was actually easier to carry the basket above her head because of the amount of people in the store.
I went the day after and just wanted to find some milk and Bananas. I figured that would be a good slow entry into a Mexican Super Store. Find Milk and Bananas that would be a simple enough task. I was so so wrong. I found the produce section but no bananas. They were sold out, but to figure out my banana situation I had to walk through the prepared breads and snack/deli area. Crazy. The line to check out of the deli was not joke 38 people deep. It's like these people had never seen a low grade subway or hoggie shop in their life. CRAZY. So I began the search for milk. Milk isn't in the open cooler section like in the states. This is box milk, it is sold in Liters not gallons and somehow doesn't spoil when it is left at room temperature. I know it's weird and it freaked me out the first time I saw it but they chili it before they drink it they just don't store it in the frig. The store is huge so I was navigating the aisle with no idea what way I was supposed to go to find milk. I found formula down by the produce but I couldn't fine the milk.
FOUND IT
Of course I should have checked here first. It's so simple it's right on the shelf. So simple if I would have started thinking like a Mexican. Right in front to the tires and paint and right across from the alcohol. And kitty corner to the pharmacy. It wasn't a total victory but I'd say my first shopping experience was a success just in the fact that I didn't leave the store nothing. I"m also promoted that consumerist tendencies of a "got to have it now society". In the check out line you know how they have that rack of magazines, candy, hearing aid batteries, and toe nail clipper. Yes, they have those down here too, but this one only had candy and toothbrushes. Still I needed a toothbrush but I hate buying thing from those racks because I feel like some market analyst has picked me apart and decided on that day that i"m going to buy a toothbrush or toe nail clipper, or a hearing aid battery.

Sorry I went to go take a bunch of pictures but I got to overwhelmed and just need to get milk. Sorry maybe I'll get more pictures from my next Super Che experience.
